Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has beaten his teammate at each of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the championship lead from his teammate by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, trailing 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his team opted for a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, if briefly, when he lost control at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda slid over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was blessed to get away with just a light touch of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the session, spinning around through the high-speed corner before the final bend on to the pit straight.
The veteran ended the session in P19, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
